Baker's Dozen

Pin Ups: A David Bowie Baker's Dozen Compilation
Laurie Tuffrey , January 12th, 2016 14:37

In the wake of the great man's passing, we bring together all the times his albums have been featured in our favourite 13 LPs feature, including contributions from Paul Weller, Gary Numan, Brett Anderson and more

It's become something of a running joke the number of times a David Bowie album has been chosen by interviewees in our Baker's Dozen features. And to be fair, it's not without foundation - in the almost six years that we've been running the series, no fewer than 34 musicians, writers and broadcasters have picked one of his records as one of their favourite 13, in some cases more than one and with the note that they could have filled their entire allowance with selections from his output. Following yesterday's hugely sad news, it seemed fitting to compile these choices in one extensive piece, collecting together all the instances of Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust (by our tally, the two most frequently chosen) and others being picked out. As you'd expect, this makes for quite an exhaustive feature, though in a sense this only serves to further underline both the sheer breadth of Bowie's influence and how undimmed the appeal of his albums remains. As ever, click on the image below to begin scrolling through the choices.
