William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops
William Basinski is a great artist and a great human being. I love the way he dresses and I deeply respect all the Arcadia thing. The Disintegration Loops is probably his most famous work… It is so easy to be fascinated by these tapes that slowly, slowly die and then recreate. These beautiful, ever-changing mantras of orchestral strings and forgotten pianos... I suspect that these quiet yet epic pieces have, in a hidden way, greatly influenced me and my music. There is also a magnificent DVD of the last hour of daylight on 9/11 in NYC, recorded with a video camera, focusing on the smoke where the Twin Towers were from a neighbour's roof, soundtracked by one of these ethereal tracks.
