Berlin-based duo ready the release of their debut album for the veteran label in May

R&S have announced details of a forthcoming Lakker album, entitled Tundra, following a number of past releases from the Berlin-based duo on the label. You can listen to the previously released ‘Mountain Divide’, taken from the album, above.

Tundra, the pair’s debut album on the label, is described as “perfectly in line with R&S’s techno heritage whilst also taking in influence and inspiration from the varied likes of No U-Turn Records, the choral music of Arvo Part, Merzbow, early Human League, and raw ethnic music”, so quite a mixed bag then. The album was mastered at New Atlantis Studios by Sonic Boom, known for past work with Spacemen 3 and Spectrum.

Speaking about the album, Dara Smith, one half of the duo, says: “we’ve always been interested in voices that sound like synths and synths that sound like voices”, with the duo drawing on vocal contributions from a Dublin female choir and Inuit throat singers. “Also, the atmosphere and feeling you get around the ocean, wind and storms has always been an influence,” Smith adds. Tundra is out on May 11.
