Karma To Burn - Appalachian Incantation
Very rarely do I get a chance to see an opening act - even when I was in Kyuss. But on one occasion, it was Morgantown, West Virginia - where the band is from. I had to walk through the crowd to get to the backstage area and I stopped dead in my tracks and said: "What the fuck is this?" There was no singer, Rich Mullins with his hat on and his legs spread as far as he could, Nathan Limbaugh, the original drummer, and of course Will Mecum. I was fucking floored and I remember I said to Brant: "There's no way we can follow this." I met them that night; we became friends and the next thing you know I'm back in West Virginia doing a track with them. Put lyrics to any of these tracks and you're going to ruin the band. They did a couple - and I'm honoured to say that I was responsible for one of them - but honestly, one of the best bands I have ever seen in my entire life. They're mean, they're heavy, they're melodic and Will is one of my favorite guitar players on the planet.
