Boredoms, 2004
This was the year when I really felt I was coming away with compositions that stood alone in their own right.
Initially it appeared hard to find a human dimension with all the equipment involved with Boredom's set-up of three facing drum kits. While there's always a tendency when there's a single woman in a band to frame them over the guys, that would have missed the bigger picture, though it still seemed unlikely that I'd get a shot of all them in action.
The key to this photograph, as it likely is within Boredoms, is the central figure of Yamantaka Eye, whose mixing desk completes the band's inward-facing circle. By waiting for the moment that he lifted his head, I got this amazing moment between the four of them that I don't think could be made better.
