Iggy & The Stooges, 2006
This was the first ATP at Minehead and as the Centre Stage couldn't hold everyone, the crowd was divided by wristbands into one of two nights to see Iggy & The Stooges followed by Sonic Youth. That only added to the anticipation on this first night before Iggy sent them and the swarm of pit photographers wild.
Most of the time at ATP, there's a good deal of understanding between photographers, but with a big headliner, such thoughtfulness is a distant concern as snappers fall over themselves to get a result. I can be as prone to losing my head as much as anyone, though for this shot I chose to stop running after Iggy and look side on to the stage.
With big shows, I rarely get an experience where the musician looks directly at me but for some reason that's what happened here. You can tell that at this moment, Iggy is stood side-on to the audience as his right side is in light. Thus, when I saw this lined up through my viewfinder, I clicked.
