First single from new album Taiga, out on Mute in October

Zola Jesus has announced the release of her fourth album, Taiga, which she'll be releasing through her new label Mute. It follows last year's Versions, though Zola, aka Nika Rosa Danilova, sees it as an artistic year zero, explaining: "For me, it feels like my true debut, because it is the first time I have felt so open and liberated."

While it was recorded on Vashon Island near Seattle in Washington, the album's title refers back to Zola's home state - she says: "'Taiga' is the Russian name for the boreal forest. For me it feels very alive… very expansive. It represents a feral, untapped world that could happily exist without us. There are taiga forests in northern Wisconsin where I was raised, and also in Russia where my ancestors are from, so it also feels very native." The album's not out until October 6, but it's been trailed with the first single, 'Dangerous Days', which you can stream above (and download for free in exchange for an e-mail address at her website), and have a read of Zola's Baker's Dozen of LPs by women who inspired her here.
