Scottish indie-pop veterans The Vaselines have just announced a new album, V For Vaselines, and trailed it with 'One Lost Year' - listen and download above. It's only the group's third full-length, having released their debut Dum-Dum in 1989, the release of which was marked by the band splitting up. A reunion in 2008 then led to their 2010 LP Sex With An X, which we called an "organic reunion of two songwriters who've rediscovered how much they enjoy making music together". V For Vaselines, which the band say was inspired by seeing a Ramones covers band, will be released by Rosary Music on September 29 and was recorded at Mogwai's Castle Of Doom studio in Glasgow, with guests including Teenage Fanclub's Frank Macdonald, Michael McGaughrin of the 1990s and Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian.

Says Eugene Kelly, one half of the band's core duo alongside Frances McKee: "We just work together well. I don't know what it is, but when we get together, it creates a sound we couldn't do separately [...] I just wanted to write some really short punk rock songs, just get into people's ear really straight away, and then get out of there really quickly."
