Next month, Thrill Jockey will be releasing Mediation Of Ecstatic Energy, the third in a trilogy of albums the label’s put out by Dustin Wong, former Ponytail man and guitar loopist extraordinaire, and we’re excited to host the first track to be taken from the album, to download no less.
Discordant and angular, ‘The Big She’ takes languid, rapidly-echoed strums and strafes them with gnarly melodic lines and metallic shards, presumably conjured from Wong’s stompbox halo (see above). Around the three-minute mark, drums kick in, sounding a little awkward at first, before settling into a propulsive, almost motorik, rhythm, leaving the guitars to flail in free abandon atop – have a listen below:
