Carter Tutti Announce New Single
Laurie Tuffrey , April 24th, 2013 10:22

Coolicon is set for release on May 20, following headline Heaven gig

Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti have announced that they will be releasing a brand new Carter Tutti single, their first in over 20 years, on May 20th via their own CTI label. A double-A side, it features the tracks 'Coolicon' and 'Coolicon-Fusion'. It's their first single since 'Synaesthesia' in 1992, and will be available on 10" green vinyl and download. The text accompanying the announcement explains: "The title ‘Coolicon’ is the name of the manufacturer of an old metal lampshade Delia Derbyshire used to 'sample' while at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960s. Carter Tutti have their own lampshade and Cosey’s use of its distinctive sound can be heard to great effect on both recordings."

The single will be released the day after the duo's show at London's Heaven, which promises to be a mightily loud and intense affair, finding them playing alongside Pan Sonic man Mika Vainio (in advance of his own new album Kilo) and Diagonal boss and purveyor of excellent, scuzzy, techno and no-wave informed electronics Powell. Keep an eye on the Quietus this Friday, where we will be running an interview with the duo about the new single and their future plans.
