Incubate, the Quietus' favourite European festival, has just announced the first round of acts for this year's edition, running September 16-22 in venues across Tilburg in the Netherlands.

Frankly, it's another embarrassment of riches with Front 242, Built To Spill, Tim Hecker, Vatican Shadow, Pete Swanson, Prurient, Hieroglyphic Being and the Quietus Phonographic Corporation's very own East India Youth on the bill. But that's before we mention the rest of this 60-strong first batch of the festival's 250 acts: Levon Vincent, Worship, Kyle Hall, Cut Hands, Orthodox, My Cat Is An Alien, Grumbling Fur, Vessel, WIFE, Beneath, Dalhous, Kowton, Maston, Mmoss, The Resonars, Shannon & The Clams, Batillus, Iron Witch, Nohome, The Black Heart Rebellion, Carlton Melton, White Manna, Mujeres, Date Palms, Dead Existence, The Soupcans, Plankton Wat, Staer, Heartbeat Parade, Sex Jams, Heirs, Warm Toy Machine, Condor Gruppe, Axes, Tinner, Faal, Hessian, Jig Ai, Ahumado Granujo, Nunwhore Commando 666, Satan's Revenge On Mankind, Stoma, Ben Nash, Nick Millevoi, Fasenuova, Hexis, Lucia Lip and Screw Houston Start Screaming.

But wait, there's more! On Saturday 21 September, 030303 are hosting ‘Acid flashback: 25 years of acid house’, with 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Kosmik Kommando, Tyree Cooper, Ceephax Acid Crew, Chris Moss Acid and Mantra all set to play slots.

Says artistic director Vincent Koreman of the line-up: “I listen to a great variety of musical styles. And I see others doing the same. People want variation when it comes to music, and like to discover good new music. That’s what happens at Incubate. I think that’s why the festival grows in size each year. Incubate focusses on artistic progress. We’re putting cutting-edge artists of today next to the creators of genres. It’s really cool to present house pioneers like 808 State alongside techno innovator Pete Swanson. Or the archetypical indie rock of Built To Spill next to the ambient noise of Tim Hecker. It sets Incubate apart from other festivals. And then I’m not even talking about the visual arts, films and theater, or the conference at Incubate.”

Not only will the Quietus be there in person, but we'll have curated our very own route through the festival, picking out the choicest acts (though you can't go far wrong with that lot).
