Former Tinariwen members' desert-blues band announce date in May; UPDATE: change of date and venue

Terakaft, the Tuareg desert rock group featuring two members of the pioneering Malian blues rockers Tinariwen, are set to play a one-off show at UPDATE - April 8: Electrowerkz on May 29.

The band (whose name means "The Caravan" in their native Tamashek), comprising Kedou ag Ossad and Liya Ag Ablil, aka Diara, of Tinariwen, later joined by Diara's nephews Rhissa Ag Ogham and Sanou Ag Ahmed, released their fourth album last year - have a listen to Kel Tamasheq below:

Along with fellow Malians Sidi Touré, Bassekou Kouyaté and Tamikrest, they're another band bearing witness to the effects of the Islamic militant insurgence in northern Mali, banning non-devotional music at the threat of amputation or worse. Speaking to The World last year, bandleader Diara said: “I don’t understanding what is happening in Mali. There has always been conflict between North and South, but things are different now with the Tuareg rebels and the Islamic extremists. Like many Tuaregs I’m just watching the situation, because it’s so difficult to understand what the future holds.”
