Exotic Pylon to host Danish musician later this month

Exotic Pylon, Jonny Mugwump's radio show/music night/record label and all round gatherer of esoteric sounds, have announced that they will be hosting the first of a new series of nights on April 17th. It'll be the first Exotic Pylon gig since they finished their previous run of events at Dalston's Vortex, and is set to feature Quietus favourite Frisk Frugt, aka Denmark's Anders Lauge Meldgaard.

Meldgaard's unstoppably long-titled Dansktoppen Møder Burkina Faso I Det Himmelblå Rum Hvor Solen Bor, Suite album was released by Exotic Pylon late last year, and swiftly rose to become a favourite of tQ Editor John Doran - to the point that he wrote a feature at the beginning of 2013 entitled 'Two Reasons Why Frisk Frugt Is Flipping Brilliant'. "Weirdly," he wrote, "almost from the get go (well, from the get go of the second track at least) the weird thing about this weirdly brilliant album is not how weird it is, but how weird it is that you don’t notice much of the weirdness, just an intricately woven tapestry of tunefulness and sunny riffs. The fact that African finger pianos are back to back with electric guitars and vintage synths with programmed beats and squalling Fisher Price saxophone with kora doesn’t seem weird at all."

Also on the night's bill is Noteherder, aka Chris Parfitt, "who plays soprano sax and shouts"; McCloud, aka Geoff Reader, who "shouts and plays synthesisers, field recordings and cheap effects units", and Shape Worship (DJ). For tickets and more information, click here.
