Dolly Parton – The Fairest Of Them All
I love her, I really do. She has her funny image and her tits and all that, but if that’s the way she chooses to be, she can. As a musician, she’s really good, and as a lyricist, she’s fantastic. I’ve liked her for a long time, since I first heard ‘Jolene’, which is quite a long time ago. That’s the one that started me. The pain in her songs really speaks to me. Loretta Lynn sings that way too. It’s extraordinary what they went through. We really don’t have a British equivalent of these singers. How could we?
