John Coltrane – My Favourite Things
I love Coltrane. This is sentimental music, isn’t it? I suppose I must be a nostalgist. I loved Duke Ellington and Count Basie and all that very much, and I loved Little Richard. It’s all the golden past, isn’t it? I came onto this music much later, I didn’t grow up loving Duke Ellington and all that stuff. It kind of developed in me as I got to know more about it all. I don’t really listen to much new music. I mean, I listen to the radio, but no, I don’t listen to new artists, unless I’m asked to do something on the radio where they play me music and I have to say what I think about it. I must say, when I do those programmes, they find some things that I like, but I never follow up on them. I’ve listened to so much music in my life and I’ve learned to trust what I like.
