Coachella promoters enter into five-year contract for hosting summer concerts in the park

AEG Live have been announced as the new promoters for concerts in Hyde Park.

The promoters, a division of the entertainment company Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), have entered into a five-year contract with the Royal Parks, the executive agency in charge of Hyde Park.

The announcement comes two weeks after previous promoters Live Nation parted ways with the Royal Parks, citing concerns with the agency's handling of noise levels, crowd safety and estimated revenue levels.

Says Linda Lennon, chief executive of the Royal Parks: “Hyde Park has a successful track record of hosting popular large music events. The Royal Parks is excited to be working with AEG Live on developing a new innovative and exciting world class summer concert series, which will provide entertainment while minimising the impact on the park and the local community.”

AEG Live are notable for promoting California's Coachella Festival, as well as running the Hammersmith Apollo and having Leonard Cohen and, ahem, Justin Bieber on their current touring roster. They will be working with the Royal Parks to host six events in Hyde Park next summer.

Jay Marciano, president and CEO of AEG Europe, said: “AEG Live is proud to be partnering with The Royal Parks in the creation of an exceptional and ground-breaking new summer festival for London. Utilising AEG’s global resources and expertise in delivering similar landmark music festivals, such as the annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in California, this event shall set a new standard for the enjoyment of live music at this iconic location.”
