The Quietus - A new rock music and pop culture website

Eat Lights Become Lights & tQ DJs Gig Tonight

North East London’s Eat Lights Become Lights are slowly but surely becoming a live force to be cowered before. With their new album Heavy Electrics they’ve shrugged off the image of musos playing polished and enjoyable motorik Krautrock revival grooves and have now found progressive heavy space they can call their own.

And we don’t use the word ‘space’ accidentally… They have tweaked and turbo-boosted their sound to give it a heavier, acid edge, with burbling Roland beeps and blats, alongside John Carpenter synths, treated drums and interstellar Secret Machines/Hawkwind/ guitars, to compliment their already solid Neu!/Cluster/Guru Guru/Tangerine Dream foundation, giving everything much more mass at the same velocity.

Anyway, don’t just take our word for it, they’re playing at Club Motorik tonight (Friday) at Power Lunches Arts Cafe in Dalston. The show runs from 8pm until 2am, features The See Sees in support, and our very own John Doran on the ones and twos playing heavy cosmic pulse grooves to get your noggin a noddin’. And it's only a fiver in.

More details here.

We have a review of Heavy Electronics coming up on the Quietus soon but to whet your whistle here is a Club Motorik mix done by Robotic Rob Hyde from the band.
