Score to be released through Nonesuch in September

Jonny Greenwood's score for the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master is scheduled for release through Nonesuch Records on September 11th. The soundtrack consists of eleven original compositions from Greenwood, as well as four tracks from the era in which the film is set. The album will include performances from the London Contemporary Orchestra and the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, amongst others.

Anderson's film, set in the 1950s, is centred around a disturbed drifter played by Joaquin Phoenix who becomes indoctrinated by the teachings of 'The Master', played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film also includes performances from Amy Adams, Jesse Plemons and Laura Dern.

The Master is not the first time the Radiohead guitarist has worked with director Anderson. Greenwood also composed for his award winning film There Will Be Blood back in 2007. Greenwood's work as a film composer has also taken in Norwegian Wood, as well as his own film project Bodysong back in 2003. More recently, he wrote and recorded a series of responses to the music of Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki.

Nonesuch Records already have a pre-order for the album over at their web store, including an instant download of Greenwood's 'Application 45 Version 1' from the soundtrack.
