Leeds-based noise rock troupe return with new album

Leeds-based purveyors of frenetic and mind-whirlingly intense noise rock and hardcore, Castrovalva, are set to return with a new album on 1st October. Entitled You're Not In Hell, You're In Purgatory My Friend, it marks the follow-up to 2010's debut We Are A Unit (which you can still listen to here). In advance of the album's release they've put out the video for the title track, which you can watch below.

Musically it suggests that the new album's likely to find them on as tricky form as ever, blurring between song structures, time signatures and vocal styles at the drop of a hat. "As with everything associated with this band, the only thing you can ever expect is the unexpected," we're cryptically warned in the text accompanying the album's announcement. Apparently You're Not In Hell drops the hip-hop influences that shone through on the last record in favour of something a bit more direct and thrashy, which will be accompanied by lyrics based on "things closer to home where the subjects of friends, family, fatherhood and broken relationships are all explored."

The band are also set to tour the UK in October as the main support with labelmates Nine Black Alps - tour dates run as follows.
