Plus! Yoko Ono in "intense" shocker

In an interview with BBC 6music, The Flaming Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne has discussed the key moments in his career, and how he feels "addicted" to his music.

Coyne likens his addiction to his art to that of a drug addiction, saying "My mind is actually addicted to my art and my music. If I'm away for it for too long, I do have a reaction to it, a little bit like a drug addict." The singer then goes on to talk about his experience seeing The Who play live, and how that made him want to make music, claiming "I walked out of The Who concert utterly changed." Coyne also talks about his admiration for Yoko Ono, who features on The Flaming Lip's new album. "She's intense, she still runs the world like she's 35 years old, it's her deal!" Coyne said. "I can say for sure, this idea about Yoko Ono being this entity, like she's pure, it's about love, it's about music and being creative - it's true!"

The band have just released a collaborative album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, featuring guest spots from bands such as Bon Iver, Tame Impala, Nick Cave and Ke$ha. The album was released as a limited-run vinyl for Record Store Day, and contained the blood of some of the collaborators.

The hour-long interview will be broadcast on BBC 6music 8 July from 12-1pm.
