A host of new projects from Chicago's purveyors of doom/drone mark the beginning of 2012

Chicago trio Locrian, whose expansive tracks draw in elements of doom, drone, ambient (and almost everything else) are set to release new material this year.

First up is a collaborative album with Mammifer, the duo of ex-Isis guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner and wife, the artist/pianist Faith Coloccia. Entitled Bless Them That Curse You, it's due for release on CD through Profound Lore Records on 6th March. Later on it will be issued on double LP by Sige and Utech Records, and on cassette through Sige and Land Of Decay (Locrian's own tape label). Pitchfork previewed one of its tracks, 'In Fulminic Blaze', last month. You can listen to it here.

The band have also recently finished mastering the tracks for a collaborative LP with Christoph Heeman, which is due for release on Handmade Birds.

Locrian's Terence Hannum has also recently published the last in a series of art books he put out through 2011, on the intersection of the sacred and the profane in music. Entitled The Unholy Bow, it "focuses on the group ritual of the headbang ubiquitous in heavy metal culture, by cropping drawings and digital photo collages into a printed cadence and features a brief musing cadence from the artist". More information at Hannum's website.
