New Liars LP: Sound Sketches & Clues Emerge

Hints to direction of new album appear online

One of the albums that the Quietus is most looking forward to in 2012 is whatever Liars come up with to follow our LP of 2010, Sisterworld. Well, posts on the Liars website (opening page – group disappearing into bright hole in the ground) suggest interesting things are forthcoming. Late last year, they posted that their "idol" was to produce the next album – though photographs of Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross with the producer saw him or her censored out of the shot. Now, starting earlier this month, the trio have uploaded video and sound. One image shows the electrical signal being taken from an apple and run into a reel-to-reel tape. There’s a video clip of kids on bikes accompanied by high-density power electronics. Two pedals, and wires dipped into a glass of water. Readings from the leaves of a cacti, the sound of a digital itch. A small image of Hemphill vanishing into the plughole (falling down holes seems to be a theme here). The band getting "album tattoos". And finally deranged footage of Andrew, wearing a crash helmet, strapped into a car, to the sound of ambient synths. Intriguing indeed. All this may be seen at the Liars website.
