As if being named Hogarth isn’t tough enough on a kid, the hero of The Iron Giant also has to deal with being the only child to a hot, single mom. But it’s not the titular behemoth that takes the place of the father. I mean, what kind of dad would Vin Diesel make, anyway? No, it’s the reluctant beatnik who provides the affectionate male role model Hogarth needs. Isn’t it always? Beatniks are known to be very responsible people.
