Animal Collective

The future of music according to a certain well-respected music title, the presence of Animal Collective on the bill is one of Friday’s highlights for new and old fans alike. Even with the temperature taking a sharp dip, the people have gathered to witness the men from Baltimore (by way of Brooklyn) perform their unique brand of experimental pop. There are many reasons why tonight should be a celebratory set. Yet, being an ever divisive lot, the AC decide to mess with the formula that made Merriweather Post Pavilion such a success. Standouts such as ‘My Girls’ are given the chopped and screwed treatment as the band strip out the song’s bass-heavy ways and Noah Lennox croaks through his vocals. Impressed by their bravery, but finding little to connect with, we make an early break and head to the cinema tent.

John Doran: "There are only a few things that seperate us from the animals and furniture — after the opposable thumb — is the most important. Look at all these people sitting on the floor — in mud! — as if the chair isn't an 8,000 year old concept."
