John Hughes Obituary and Ten Best Films
David Bax , August 10th, 2009 10:24

Sixteen Candles

When a teenage girl whose family has some money turns 16, she should expect a bit of a to-do. If this ritual is forgotten, it may not be the worst thing that’s ever happened in the world but you can forgive someone that age for not having a lot of perspective. I’ll never know for sure how well Hughes did at portraying the life of a female high-schooler but, based on the number of young women who list this film among their favorites, I’d say he did pretty well.
