John Hughes was a comedy genius who perfectly captured the trails and tribulations of the American suburban teen. He created some of the most memorable films of the 80s including The Breakfast Club, Christmas Vacation, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Battleship Pretension's David Bax looks back on his legacy with a list of his top ten films.

Vacation

The suburban father has many of the same responsibilities as fathers in the rest of the world. He has to keep the lights on and keep food on the table. He has to make sure his kids grow up right. But he has one more thing to do: the annual summer vacation - the money, the planning, the endless driving, all this to provide a few happy memories for his ungrateful children. Vacation takes the stressed inner monologue of these put-upon men and explodes onto the face of Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold who, in turn, explodes it onto the face of a large plastic moose.
