He created some of the most memorable films of the 80s including The Breakfast Club, Christmas Vacation, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Home Alone

It may be filled to the brim with violence that’s presented cartoonishly (yet is astoundingly disturbing if pondered for more than a minute or so) but it’s the perfect fantasy of a young boy. The suburban home becomes a child’s own castle and the means to defend it are as whimsical and, to use the most fitting parlance, "awesome" as a kid could possibly dream up. Also, the film features a scene between John Candy and Catherine O’Hara in the back of a truck that’s worth the price of admission all by itself.
