Hot Rats will fight for your right to party

The new side-project between Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey from Supergrass and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich have recorded a psychedelic Beastie Boys cover.

The recently formed Hot Rats are preparing to release a cover album in the next few months which will include cover version of The Kings, Gang of Four, Roxy Music and the Sex Pistols.

And Godrich revealed that one of the album's best pieces was a version of the Beastie Boys classic '[You Gotta] 'Fight For Your Right To Party'.

"There's a great version of 'Fight For Your Right To Party' which is very psychedelic", he said. "There's no point doing covers and doing them the same.

"It's kind of acoustic, psychedelic, sometimes speed-driven, sometimes heavy. It's kind of all over the shop. It's great though."

The album will also include a version of The Sex Pistol's 'EMI' which was inspired by the band's decision to leave them last year to start their own independent label Supergrass Records.

"We needed one more song and we couldn't think what to do, so we decided on EMI because they were actually on EMI", he said. "It was a kind of little farewell to the label."
