Few would have expected Lynch himself to act in the second series of Twin Peaks, playing the partially deaf FBI agent Gordon Cole — shouter of inconsequential lines such as "THIS PIE IS FANTASTIC!" His presence certainly amps up the awkward factor just when you thought you couldn't cram any more baffling personalities into one programme.
