Superman's fanciful rescue defies even the warped logic of superhero films. Maybe if you were alive in the pre-Copernican Dark Ages, and living in a cave, you might think that turning the world the other way would reverse time. The concept is most likely a throwback to the more naive and kid-oriented Superman comics of the 50s - when kids were a bit thicker.
