Cohen "shocked and deeply saddened" by conflagration

Leonard Cohen, his support act Paul Kelly, promotors AEG and the Australian Frontier Touring Company have clubbed together to donate AUS$200,000 to victims of the wild fires that have ravaged the Australian Victoria region.

Cohen is currently approaching the end of his Australian tour.

Frontier Touring Company MD Michael Gudinski said in a statement that "Leonard has loved his time in Australia on this tour and is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the fires.

"Leonard, Paul, their touring parties and everyone at AEGLive UK and the Frontier Touring Company wish to extend their heartfelt sympathies to those that have suffered the loss of loved ones or their homes through this terrible tragedy."

Leonard Cohen plays Melbourne, the main city in Victoria, tonight.
