You won't see Lily 'Smile' through gritted teeth - because she's totally not into coke, m'kay?

Lily Allen has expressed sympathy for the plight of families blighted by drugs after comments made in an interview with Word magazine were branded as "misguided" by awareness campaigners.

The Wordsworth of the internet has found herself in the eye of a drugs hurricane after she let slip that "the only [newspaper] story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - I know lots of people that take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work every day, no problem. But we never hear that side of the story."

Allen went on to add that she had "no statement" to make on the issue, and no longer takes drugs.

However the National Drugs Prevention Alliance suggested her blathering might be "harming young people who will at some point in their lives have to make a decision about taking drugs", while drug and alcohol treatment charity Addaction said her comments were "misguided".

Allen has issued a further statement this morning (January 8th) in response to the criticism:

"Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs."

The statement goes on to add that the song 'Everyone's At It' deals with "legally prescribed drugs like anti-depressants" as well as illegal substances.
