13: UFOmammut - Idolum
There's loud, and then there's Ufomammut. Their Idolum long player reached the Quietus' ears through fevered recommendation from all who'd surrendered to its awesome (a word that could be applied literally, for once) power. John Doran compared it to the bow wave of Saturn, travelling through space, and he's not wrong. Taking the twin concepts of "ghost" and "idea" that make up the Latin word "Idolum", this Italian group created a monstrous record where riff builds upon gargantuan riff into a dense, light-consuming prism of sound that still has a heart that beats with a sublime, welcoming beauty.
