I was a Young Ornithologist. When I was a boy I knew absolutely everything about British birds. I could identify them from all angles. I’m not so hot these days.

How did painting birds help with the healing process following your illness?

I draw with a pencil. It helped me immensely. It gave me back my individuality, my dignity.
