Slowdive Reunion Could Happen

Band "open" to the idea

It’s fair to say that history has not been kind to Slowdive. The Manics said they were worse than Hitler, and as Britpop tugged at its braces, their sensitive epics were hooted and honked at in the music press. Their final album, 1995’s Pygmalion, was largely ignored, despite it holding up well as a sparse, enjoyable record of electronic minimalism. Do they perhaps deserve the chance to restore their name? Well, Neil Halstead, now fronting the Americana-tinged Mojave 3, has told MTV Hive that “There’s a chance that we’ll get back together. No one has ever really said, ‘I never want to do it.’ We’ve never really talked about it much.”

Half-joking, Halstead said it would take "shitloads of money" for Slowdive to reunite, and remarked on the current vogue for the 80s and 90s to happen all over again: It’s crazy how in vogue it is for bands to get back together these days. It’s almost like you’re not allowed not to get back together. So, I’m sure that we will get back together – because we won’t be allowed not to.”

However, it’s not like all the band members are sitting around for a spot of Souvlaki. "We haven’t been in the same room together for a really long time," Halstead said, "We’re all in contact through email. We sort of have these email conversations and we’re all friendly, but we haven’t actually been together as the whole Slowdive unit in years, unfortunately."
