John Peel Day Shows In Preston & Manchester

Preston shows and Manchester all-day event from John Peel Sessions bands

Lancashire music promoters Tuff Life Boogie are putting on Un-Peeled, a series of events in Preston and Manchester held in September and October to celebrate John Peel Day.

The events exclusively feature artists who recorded sessions for the great man, with The Groundhogs, Emma Pollock of The Delgados and a reformed The Blue Orchids all on the bill.

Un-Peeled is split into five shows in Preston, two warm-up gigs and three themed (favourite Peel genres: indie-pop, punk and folk) sessions, and then an all-dayer in Manchester on October 27 held over two venues in the Northern Quarter. Here are the dates:

SEPTEMBER

Thu 13 – The Continental, Preston – Emma Pollock (acoustic set; The Delgados) and R.M. Hubbert (El Hombre Trajeado)

OCTOBER

Sun 14 – The Continental, Preston – The Nightingales, The Lovely Eggs (Angelia), Ted Chippington, Vincent Black Lightining (Notsensibles)

Sat 20 – The Continental, Preston – indie-pop: The June Brides, Bearsuit, Sarandon (Big Flame), The Great Leap Forward, The Bent Moustache (Donkey/The Dandelion Adventure)

Fri 26 – The Continental, Preston – punk: The Cravats, H.D.Q.

Sun 28 – The Continental, Preston – folk: Martin Carthy, Alasdair Roberts (Appendix Out), Of Arrowe Hill

The all-dayer in Manchester is on Saturday 27 October, held in the Night & Day Café and Gullivers Bar, featuring: Emma Pollock (full band set; The Delgados), The Groundhogs, The Blue Orchids, Stuart Moxham (Young Marble Giants), The Telescopes, The Wolfhounds, Yeah Yeah Noh, Inca Babies, Jez Kerr and the Family Bizarre (A Certain Ratio, The Fall), Anthroprophh/Big Naturals (The Heads), Pink Peg Slax, Dave Jackson and the Cathedral Mountaineers (The Room, Benny Profane), The Bent Moustache (Donkey, The Dandelion Adventure), John Hyatt (The Three Johns), Nights on Mars (The Three Johns), Vincent Black Lightning (Notsensibles), Baboon (Cornershop, Blank Students) and Mugstar.
