Untold, aka Jack Dunning, released the third and final instalment of his ‘Change in a Dynamic Environment’ series, out via his own Hemlock label, yesterday.
Coinciding with his first podcast for the Resident Advisor series, which consists of a collection of industrial-tinged techno from the likes of Blawan, Oscar Mulero and Sei A, Dunning’s completion of the trilogy this week is currently out digitally, with a vinyl version expected soon.
Comprising two tracks, ‘Kane’ and ‘Overdrive’, Part III sees a mark up of intensity from the previous two installments, while remaining within the four to the floor compound. This isn’t to say the EP is any less broad in its assortment of influences than Untold’s previous productions: both tracks incorporate drudgy, weathered post-punk basslines, with ‘Overdrive’ developing into an industrial strength warehouse jam and ‘Kane’ exploring distorted rhythms before exposing some euphoric electro-style synth swathes.
The incorporation of these sounds, many seldom exploited by the current UK dance music scene, shows off what makes Untold repeatedly stand out from other DJs and producers – his ability to absorb all manner of influences into his tracks.
