It’s always enjoyable to hear Dan ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ Lopatin’s deconstructions of pop songs – his early echo jams, released under his Sunsetcorp alter ego, took tiny fragments of existing tracks, looped them and drenched them in effects until they billowed outward into surprising new shapes (his take on Chris De Burgh’s ‘Lady In Red’, under the title ‘Nobody Here’, is something of a YouTube classic, turning the gaudy soppiness of the original into something lonelier and far darker). He’s just posted a new track on his Soundcloud, a take on The Flamingos’ classic ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’, which samples tiny snatches of the original’s vocals and sets them adrift in a background of cosmic synth radiation not too distant from his lovely Returnal LP.
