LISTEN: New 2:54 Track

Excellent dark pop from duo, who support The XX next week

It’s fair to say that out of the current crop of UK guitar groups, the Quietus is lurking on the darker side of the fence, enjoying music from groups like Toy, Savages, Esben & The Witch, The Horrors and so on… must be a reaction to all that pratting around in pork pie hats and going "uh uh uh woah uh" that dominated (and put us off) the form a few years back. Anyway, an addition to this illustrious bunch who’ve been quietly creeping forth over the past year or are the duo 2:54, who’ll be supporting The XX at their intimate Battersea Arts Centre gig for EYOE on May 18th. There are similarities between the two groups in the spidery, minimal guitar and breathed, doubled up vocals, but 2:54 have a murkier, fuller depth – a creepy forest pool rather than nocturnal headphone solace in the city, yet entirely pop at its core. They release their self-titled debut album out May 28th and headline The Scala on June 7th before releasing the single ‘Creeping’ on June 18th. We have the b-side for that, ‘The March’, playing for you below, with a feature to come on the site very soon.
