Cat Power Announces New Album

Sun is set for release on 10th September

This weekend, Cat Power’s Chan Marshall took to Twitter to announce a new album. "I HAVE FINISHED MY RECORD," she Tweeted on Saturday, before adding, "IT IS CALLED ‘SUN’". She did respond to another Tweeter later, saying that it will be "OUT SEPT. 11 BUT WILL GIFT ANOTHER SONG", although the NME has since confirmed that it will be out a day before in the UK via Matador.

Cat Power’s been keeping a fairly low profile since her covers album Jukebox and EP Dark End of the Street in 2008. We’ve had a few releases – a new version of ‘King Rides By’ from her 1996 LP What Would the Community Think? was put out on Christmas Day last year for the welfare organisations The Festival of Children Foundation and The Ali Forney Center, and she’s guested on albums by Beck, Eddie Vedder and Neko Case – but she’s also been keeping up with her fashionable mate Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel fashion shows and promoting literacy campaigns.

For more announcements, keep an eye on Cat Power’s Twitter account here and her MySpace here. In the meantime, watch the video for that 2011 version of ‘King Rides By’ below.
