Last week, the Quietus office was thrilled to hear for the first time one of the best tracks of 2011. It came in the form of ‘Spock’, Vince Clarke and Martin L Gore’s first collaboration since Clarke left Depeche Mode back in 1981. Is it worth a three decade wait? Hell yes, says us.
‘Spock’ is 5.42 of nigh-on perfect techno, delicious builds and judicious amounts of snide fizz making it pop as futurist in the autumn of 2011 as the duo’s last work together, Speak & Spell, probably seemed back in the autumn of 1981. Listen below. The ‘Spock’ EP (Mute), which is available exclusively at Beatport here from this afternoon, also features remixes from Edit-Select, DVS1, XOQ and Regis, who twists ‘Spock’ with an industrial scowl. VCMG will release an album in 2012.
