Confuse The Marketplace: LCD Man Ready To Record

James Murphy has eight songs for new LP - but will the brand remain the same?

Confusion surrounds the future of LCD Soundsystem after conflicting reports from frontman James Murphy and guitarist Al Doyle.

The Quietus reported yesterday on Doyle’s comments that Murphy planned to stop recording under the LCD moniker, but Murphy told NME.COM he has enough material to record a follow-up to last year’s acclaimed Sound Of Silver LP.

Murphy said: "I write all my music in my head, I never demo. I get to a point where there are too many songs and I have to get them recorded. I recently felt that. I’ve got eight in my head – that’s critical mass.

"When I start recording I don’t tell anyone not even my manager. I’ll go away for a month to a studio outside the city [New York] and do it."

Which isn’t an unequivocal denial that a rebadging may be on the cards, come to think of it, but you’ll have to draw your own conclusions for the time being.
