Radiohead Guitar Auctioned For Charity

Ed O'Brien's Telecaster up for auction, to raise money for charity

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien has donated one of his guitars for auction, to raise money for the Billie Butterfly Fund. The auction was brought to our attention by one of the founder editors of the Observer Music Monthly, Luke Bainbridge – the fund has been set up to raise money for his niece, who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. The guitar is being sold to help raise funds for treatment in the US, which will cost over £200,000.

The white Telecaster. has been used extensively by O’Brien, both recording and on tour, and is signed by the whole band. In a note accompanying the guitar, O’Brien writes:

"To whoever ends up with this Tele…

It was bought in the summer of ’98, just prior to us going into record the albums which came out as Kid A and Amnesiac. It was pretty much the only guitar I used at that time. It’s also been gigged a lot, up until and including the In Rainbows tour.

Hope you enjoy it – all the best

Ed O’Brien"
