Gruff Rhys has announced a one of collaboration with Phil Collins – the contemporary artist rather than the Genesis drummer.
The joke being that you’re supposed to think of the star of Buster and gated reverb on the drums teaming up with the front man of the Super Furry Animals but when you stop and think about it for a second, that sounds ok as well. As long as Phil’s not singing.
Anyway this Phil Collins is a Berlin-based artist and Turner Prize nominee responsible for the short film, The Meaning Of Style. The resulting soundtrack song, ‘Y Baban Bach’, will be released as a 300 copy, limited-edition 7" single available only at Gruff’s forthcoming UK tour dates.
The Meaning Of Style follows a gang of anti-fascist Malaysian skinheads and the short film – which is entirely soundtracked by Rhys’ ‘Y Baban Bach’ – will be shown at The Museum Of Contemporary Art in Tokyo from 23rd September 2011 to 9th January 2012.
