Quietus favourites heavy psychedelic prog metallers Mastodon unveil a ‘found footage’ video for their new single ‘Curl Of The Burl’.
Following on from their recent cover of ZZ Top’s ‘Just Got Paid’ for Record Store Day, ‘Curl Of The Burl’ is yet more proof of the mighty Atlanta, Georgia four piece revelling in their Southern boogie roots.
The song title is a carpentry term which refers to the whorls that form round knots in wood which attract top dollar amongst serious wood carvers.
But this isn’t actually even the official video, it’s a precursor to the real thing which is coming soon, even though the single, which can be downloaded from the usual stores, is released today.
The group have launched a contest at Mastodonrocks.com looking for the Mastodon fan who can embelish the original the best. Download the song, add your own smoking guitar, bass, drums or kazoo and upload it back to and are challenging fans to put their rock chops to good use. Download the track, add your own lead guitar or drums, and upload it back to the site. The band will pick the best entry based on originality and skill in a few weeks time.
This is what the band have to say about the competition: "One grand-prize winner will get a brand new MacBook Air Notebook, a personal message from the band, and more! One loser will be chosen and will receive an empty bag of crisps. Probably Monster Munch."
Do the lyrics of this song really say, ‘I killed a man because he killed my goat?’ – DISCUSS!
