Grammy-winning semi-indie Canadians Arcade Fire are back with a pair of new tunes, their first since last summer’s hit LP The Suburbs. Both new tracks will be featured on the forthcoming special edition of that album, set for a June 27th release in the UK.
‘Speaking in Tongues’ features a guest vocal spot from Talking Heads’ David Byrne that suits the song’s subtle new wave rumble, while ‘Culture War’ has a more relaxed, acoustic vibe. Both address similar themes to The Suburbs lyrically, and indeed will likely be welcomed into the record’s canon track listing when it inevitably sneaks onto Best of the Decade lists come 2019.
The band has also announced a special London screening of Scenes from the Suburbs, the Spike Jonze-directed short film that will accompany the special edition of the album. The film will show at the Curzon Soho cinema on June 26th. The new film from the notoriously Arcade Fire-obsessed Jonze (he also directed the music video for ‘The Suburbs’ and included a rendition of ‘Wake Up’ in his 2009 feature Where the Wild Things Are) has previously only been shown at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, and the London screening will be the only other way to see it prior to the release of the DVD.
