LISTEN: Olivia Louvel – Doll Maker

Excellent, French, and electronic

To partner our Rockfort French music column that we put up earlier, here’s an excellent track called ‘Doll Maker’ from Olivia Louvel, recently returned from tour with Alan Wilder’s Recoil (he took the pic, above). You can listen to the minimal, bassy excellent via our Soundcloud below. Here is what Olivia has to say about the song: "’Doll Maker’ is from Doll Divider a collection of electronic songs I built ‘Doll Maker’ essentially from the drum programming and one single four bar loop of synth. It’s all very instinctive and very DIY. The "crack twist toc push" is the Doll Maker’s sound at work, the maker fixing, producing the doll, the woman. Anyone can become a doll maker. The starting point for my album was A4 paintings called "Processed Dolls" I made using pages from fashion magazines and repainting on top of the photos of the models. Pretty much all the track from the album are like Russian dolls, one track led me to create another. ‘Doll Maker’ evolved into the another track, ‘Doll Divider’ which is also very rhythmic."
