Bootsy Collins New Album Details

Tha Funk Capital Of The World out in April

Exciting news reaches The Quietus bunker this afternoon: Bootsy Collins will release a new studio album later this year. Tha Funk Capital Of The World will be released on April 25, and will be his first record since 2002’s Play With Bootsy.

Talking about the LP, Bootsy said: "James Brown is the biggest influence on this whole album. When I joined his band, he took me under his wing and taught me about the business, but the most important thing he taught me about was the ‘one’ – the downbeat that always drove his music and is the engine for all great funk.

"What’s funny is that I was a guitar player before I joined Mr. Brown’s band, and I wanted to play bass like Jimi Hendrix. Eventually, that’s exactly what I did, adding effects and freeing up the instrument to go anywhere I imagined it could go. That’s how Bootsy became Bootsy."

Tha Funk Capital Of The World will feature a guest appearances from Bootsy’s late brother Catfish Collins, who passed away during the making of the album, as well as Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bobby Womack, Buckethead, Sheila E, Samuel L. Jackson, Dr. Cornell West and Rev. Al Sharpton.
