Steve Reid Passes Away Aged 66

Drummer passes away after battle with cancer

Drummer Steve Reid has passed away aged 66.

Reid, who was born in 1944 and started drumming at the age of 16, died in his sleep following a long battle with cancer.

During his career he played with the likes of Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, James Brown and Sun Ra.

Kieren Hebden, better known as Four Tet and a collaborator with Reid, said: "Steve was one of my great friends and the most wonderful musician I have ever encountered.

"He lived a great life and gave us incredible music. I’ll miss him forever."
