Tomorrow night (January 5th) the Quietus will be teaming up with our friends at White Heat to present one of our favourite bands of the moment, Esben & The Witch. We heard and saw them first last year, so they’re not a tip for 2010 as we don’t do that kind of lazy column inch filling round these parts – they’re simply one of the most inventive, intelligent British bands around right now, and a bit goth, which is always a good thing in our dusty, leather-bound book. In support of Esben will be curious electronic manglers Grasscut – "it’s quite Radioheady" quoth Quietus editor John as he delivered a brew and slab of yarg just then. And he’s not too far wrong, either, though this has more of a fizz and sparkle to its glitch than the at times dour Oxfordians.
